European retailers hit by supermarket fridge hack
More than 100 supermarket stores across several European countries had fridges and freezers running unusually hot on Monday, and some retailers linked the problem to cyber or IT incidents. In France last month, refrigeration units reportedly reached up to 50°C, leading to fires and spoiled food. Dutch operator Ahold Delhaize said an overnight “IT incident” affected cooling systems at dozens of Delhaize sites in Belgium and Luxembourg, after it detected a temperature rise. Carrefour reported issues at about 15 of 700 Belgian locations, while Colruyt Group confirmed five shops had fridge systems attacked. Swedish Coop saw disruptions at seven of about 800 stores, and IKEA reported one affected store in Mons, Belgium. Several other chains also reported limited impacts, including Musgrave in Ireland, forcing some chilled and frozen items off sale.
