Gianni Infantino says Fifa have scrapped World Cup investment plan

FIFA will not move forward with its “FIFA Forward Enterprise” plan to sell stakes in a company intended to run the commercial and operational aspects of World Cups, FIFA president Gianni Infantino said. The proposal, covering both the men’s and women’s tournaments, was rejected by three continental confederations, with UEFA warning its member nations would boycott FIFA events. Infantino said the project created divisions that are no longer aligned with FIFA’s objective to unite and improve football worldwide. The plan contributed to the resignation of senior adviser Carlos Cordeiro. COO Kevin Lamour called it “a project of one person,” while Prime Minister Andy Burnham criticized it.
