UK ministers are expected to approve the Jackdaw gas field in the North Sea later this month, with an initial recommendation from Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh as soon as next week, according to government sources. A formal decision could follow roughly a week after her sign-off, while Fahnbulleh is also likely to approve the Rosebank mega oil project in the coming months. Consultations for both projects closed last month. The industry says the developments could provide 10% of UK oil and gas output at peak. Campaigners argue carbon pollution could cause up to £336bn in economic damage, after environmental approval was revoked by a judge and applications were resubmitted.
