Killing the app economy | Arkansas Democrat Gazette
xCruzo Brief
Mobile apps are shrinking as a primary product for the next wave of startup teams, and the shift is tied to AI. Y Combinator, the San Francisco accelerator that typically accepts about 1% of roughly 10,000 teams applying every three months, says only eight of 195 startups in its last spring batch had a native mobile app as their main offering. In 2013, about 15% were app-focused; by 2016 that fell to 8%, hovering around 4% from 2019 to 2022, and dropping to between 0.5% and 1% in the past three years.
