Letter: Remembers act of kindness on 9/11

A letter submitted by an area resident recalls a moment of help during the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. The writer says they were en route to jury duty at the Lackawanna County Courthouse when they watched, “in horror,” the collapse of the World Trade Center’s north and south towers while waiting among a pool of about 100 prospective jurors. After a local judge thanked jurors and excused them as government buildings closed, the author struggled to find their car across the street at the Scranton Parking Authority building. A bicycle police officer noticed they appeared upset and seemed lost, asked what was wrong, and searched the lot until locating the car. The writer says that 25 years later the act remains memorable and expresses gratitude to the officer and all responders.
