Letters to the Editor: I'm approaching 100. Life has its challenges now, but it's not so bad
Letters to the editor respond to Steve Lopez’s July 1 column about turning 100, with multiple writers discussing aging, technology, and daily challenges. One correspondent says they will turn 98 in August, can walk without help and uses a cane for outdoor safety, and renewed a driver’s license at age 95, with expiration when they reach 101; they report reading the Los Angeles Times for 75 years. They add that social life can revolve around doctor visits, and that changing technology affects them, especially preferring human phone interactions over AI “helpers.” Another letter recalls a grandmother in 1956 saying “It’s all changed” while referring to earlier life before modern systems. A third writer notes difficulty with electronics, online account requirements, and reaching live customer service, while relying on a teenage grandson to use Lyft.
