Morrisons to make major change to checkouts at 200 stores with new AI technology

Morrisons says it will install Evercheck, an AI-driven self-checkout system from Everseen, in the first phase across 200 stores. The technology uses real-time computer vision to compare items scanned with what it sees in a customer’s basket, then displays on-screen alerts if it detects a potential missed item. Morrisons expects the system to reduce self-checkout interruptions, wait times, and the need for staff intervention during routine scanning errors. After a successful trial, the supermarket described the goal as keeping checkout “frustration-free.” Everseen also said the system does not use facial recognition, focusing only on the transaction.
