Newly appointed LAUSD Superintendent Andrés E. Chait says he wants to focus on communication, access
Andrés E. Chait, the newly appointed superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), said his priorities include improving communication and access for families. Speaking on CBS Los Angeles the day after the school board voted to appoint him, Chait said many parents want to understand how to reach programs and who to contact, and he framed the goal as making the district more manageable for LAUSD families. Chait, who has worked in the district for nearly three decades, described himself as a “lifer” and said he will continue efforts built over years. His appointment follows the resignation of former superintendent Alberto Carvalho after FBI raids of his San Pedro home and district headquarters, with additional reporting that a Florida residence linked to Carvalho was also raided. Chait previously led LAUSD through labor negotiations, budget planning, and completion of the 2025-26 school year.
