Obama voices caution on AI, urges Democrats to tackle it, NYT says

Former US President Barack Obama warned that artificial intelligence could be “dangerous” if not properly managed, urging Democrats to build policy and governance plans around the issue, the New York Times reported. Obama’s comments were made during a recent private fundraising event and, according to the paper, he said the technology is moving quickly in private hands and could be hazardous if policymakers don’t get ahead of it. The report says he encouraged House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to help shape a more public AI policy conversation, including after Democrats regain the House on November 3.
