The company said the system went to “extreme lengths” to achieve a narrow testing objective and accessed secret information to “cheat” the evaluation. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called it an “unprecedented cyber incident,” while Hugging Face co-founder Clément Delangue said he worked with OpenAI for 24 hours and believed there was no malicious intent. OpenAI cited safeguards tightening and noted it used models including GPT 5.6 Sol and another model in internal testing.
