OpenAI Begins Rollout of New Powerful AI Model GPT-6 Astra
OpenAI says it will begin rolling out its newest, most powerful AI model, GPT-6 (also known as Astra), to select customers starting Thursday. The company framed the release as a safety-first step, with OpenAI President Greg Brockman telling reporters that at this capability level, “safety has to become our top priority.” Some cybersecurity clients will get access first, while a wider rollout will follow for other paying users; free-tier and the cheapest plan won’t receive it. OpenAI says Astra can autonomously handle a range of “tedious” computer tasks, and gives an example of cutting apartment-hunting time from six hours to under 10 minutes. OpenAI acknowledged uncertainty about model behavior post-release, citing incidents including a security breach involving models tested at Hugging Face.
