OTD (15/10/1976): What Happened To This Sunderland Trialist After He Departed Wearside?

On This Day looks back at Cedric Bardon, a Sunderland trialist in 2000 who never made the move to Wearside. The 23-year-old French forward arrived at the Charlie Hurley Centre in pre-season for evaluation by manager Reid and Saxton. Bardon had played for Lyon and then Rennes, where he was a teammate of Régis Le Bris, and had more than 100 appearances in French football. Despite a short run of training and matches during a Netherlands tour, he didn’t score and wasn’t signed. He returned to Rennes, then moved to Guingamp in 2001 and Le Havre, later joining Levski Sofia in his late 20s and playing Champions League and UEFA Cup football across several countries.
