Quit being a fund manager to teach maths, this is what happened next

Peter Saacke, a long-time Artemis fund manager, retired at the end of June 2024 and retrained as a teacher with the charity Now Teach. He describes the transition as initially stressful: after school, he found himself lying in a dark room for 30 minutes daily, a different kind of pressure than managing a portfolio. Saacke said the move was driven by the national shortage of maths teachers and weaknesses in numeracy and financial literacy, alongside demand in economics where Business Studies hiring targets missed by 70% last year. Now in his first year in a permanent role at a central London boys school, he teaches many A-level students and is developing a financial literacy course.
