Samsung reports billions in record profit for Q2 thanks to AI boom
Samsung Electronics reported record operating profit of 89.5 trillion won (about $62 billion) for the April–June period, a day after SK Hynix also posted record results, as the global AI boom lifts memory suppliers. The profit was more than 19 times higher than a year ago, driven mostly by semiconductors, where rising chip prices benefited demand for AI servers and higher shipments of advanced high-bandwidth memory for AI applications. That helped offset an operating loss in Samsung’s mobile, TV and home appliances unit, which was influenced by higher component costs. Samsung said quarterly revenue reached 171.5 trillion won (about $119 billion). It expects strong memory demand in the second half, while forecasting the supply-demand gap could widen further in 2027.
