SpaceXAI Keeps 69 Unpermitted Turbines Until July 2027 as Congress Demands Records

SpaceXAI said it would not remove 69 unpermitted gas turbines immediately from a data center site in Southaven, Mississippi, agreeing instead to remove them by July 2027—nearly a year after a December 31, 2026 deadline set by state regulators. The turbines have been running since August 1, 2025 in a majority-Black community already facing some of the worst air quality in the US. A July 30 “agreed order” described as good-faith extension is characterized in the report as driven by supply-chain delays. The development follows a letter from Rep. Frank Pallone to SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk demanding full document production and site tours by August 11. Pallone said SpaceXAI was among the least cooperative AI firms his committee met. Musk also posted that a fourth data center would be built near Memphis, called “Minihard,” using 220,000 Nvidia GB300 chips.
