Trump Admin Unveils 11-Foot AI-Designed Nuclear Test Vehicle at DC Fair
The Trump administration’s Genesis Mission reached a public milestone with the unveiling of Aires Tide, an AI-designed nuclear test flight vehicle, at the National Mall. The demonstrator, standing 11 feet tall, was displayed at the Great American State Fair on June 25. The U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) said Aires Tide is intended to collect data on extreme heat, vibration and other stresses experienced during high-speed flight by systems used in the U.S. nuclear deterrent. Officials described it as a proof of concept rather than an operational system. Developed using artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and 3D printing, the program involved researchers from Sandia, Lawrence Livermore, Los Alamos and the Kansas City National Security Campus. It relied on the Venado and El Capitan supercomputers and completed two drop tests at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah in May. The agency said AI and advanced manufacturing shortened development to about five months.
