Why AI models favor fintechs over traditional banks

A study cited in the report says large language models recommend fintechs for small-business banking far more often than they suggest traditional banks, potentially making incumbent institutions less visible to entrepreneurs. Fintechs such as Mercury, Bluevine and Wise were recommended much more frequently than traditional banks. Across the models, fintechs received 1,345 recommendations versus 452 for banks. The report argues companies should focus on “LLM optimization” by improving product clarity and digital legibility that AI systems can access.
