World's Largest Neobank Disappears in U.S. AI Search, New 5W Study Finds

A new 5W study says the world’s largest neobank by user count, Nubank, effectively disappears from prominent mentions by major AI assistants in the U.S., despite strong visibility in Latin America. The Neobanks AI Visibility Index 2026, released June 25, 2026, benchmarks how often neobanks and digital-first banks are surfaced, cited, and recommended by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. It analyzed 31,500 prompts fielded between February and May 2026 across the U.S., the U.K., the E.U., and Latin America. The study reports Nubank holds about 55% of Latin America’s neobank AI visibility, but drops below a discoverability floor in the U.S. Across regions, Chime leads the U.S. at 34.7%, Monzo leads the U.K. at about 37%, and Revolut leads the E.U. mainland at about 40%. It also finds that four publishers account for 62% of U.S. neobank AI citations, with Wikipedia, NerdWallet, Bankrate, and Reddit driving most references. In safety-focused prompts, some engines route answers to chartered incumbents instead of classifying certain neobanks as banks.
