She chose to play the Michigan Lottery’s King Cashword instant game and later scratched her ticket that night, calling her son first to confirm what she was seeing. She said she normally walks to the store but drove instead because it was too hot and construction near the original location made access difficult. The winning ticket was purchased at Speedy Q Markets in Port Huron. She claimed the prize at lottery headquarters and selected a one-time lump sum of about $693,000 instead of annuity payments, saying she plans to buy a new house and a new car.
