National Experts to Examine ABA Accreditation, Options and the Future of Legal Education
National experts will examine changes to American Bar Association (ABA) law school accreditation and what they could mean for the future of legal education. The program, “A Conversation on the Accreditation of Law Schools,” will be held virtually on Monday, June 29, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. Central Time, hosted by the Houston Bar Association. It will address the current state of ABA accreditation in Alabama, Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas, and includes updates plus institutional perspectives and a critique of the ABA system. Organizers said the discussion reflects developments as several states have reasserted their Supreme Court’s authority over accreditation and explored expanding options. The event will feature 15 leaders, including Kellye Y. Testy of the Association of American Law Schools and Dean Erwin Chemerinsky of UC Berkeley Law, alongside Daniel Thies of the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar.
