Richmond secures final private parcel on Mayo Island
xCruzo Brief
Richmond secured the final private parcel on Mayo Island, a 0.25-acre tract that will help the city convert a long-standing concrete parking lot into a public park. The parcel was previously owned by Louis A. Heindl, who bought it in 1973 for $13,000, according to city records, and it had most recently been used as a food truck hub. The nonprofit CRLC closed on the property for $675,000, far above its $55,000 assessed value, but below the $1.65 million asking price listed in 2024. CRLC’s acquisition could also provide the city more options for the design of the new Mayo Bridge, per a news release. Next month, the city plans to begin demolishing structures on the portion of Mayo it already owns.
