Iran’s rial fell to a record low as the U.S. prepares to announce additional sanctions, according to AP. Trading opened Monday with the currency at 2.02 million rials per dollar, compared with an official Central Bank rate of about 1.5 million. The market rate is what most Iranians pay. The rial had been under pressure before the U.S. and Israel struck Iran on Feb. 28, but has continued setting new lows as nearly six months of war intensify economic strain. Iran warns it will respond harshly, including toward neighbors. Elsewhere, the U.S. also was linked to talks on a future security agreement, while Canada faces 50% U.S. duties on about $20 billion in goods, with retaliation due Sept. 8.
