River City actor Iain Robertson denies crimes against four women

River City actor Iain Robertson has told jurors he is "no angel" but denies attacks against four women, including a rape allegation. The 45-year-old is on trial at the High Court in Glasgow, facing seven charges spanning from 2004 to 2020, including the rape of one woman, assault and breach of the peace. Robertson, known for playing Stevie O'Hara in the BBC soap, acknowledged his issues with alcohol but insisted his accounts differ from those of the complainants during cross-examination by defence KC Gary Allan. One account concerns an alleged Lake District incident in September 2007, in which a woman said he had sex with her after they were in a room together following a confrontation; Robertson argued she initiated sex and that he left the room to avoid others hearing them. He denied raping her and said he did not pour wine on her or damage her university work. The defence also addressed allegations of a separate assault on another woman who was a fellow actor, including a 2014 incident described as dragging by the hair, with the accuser recounting fear and coercive contact afterward. Robertson acknowledged alcohol problems but maintained his version differs from the complainants' accounts. He has not worked since leaving River City in 2023, and the trial continues as testimony proceeds.
