Boeing's $36.2 Billion Korean Air Deal Won't Help Earnings Until the 2030s
Boeing confirmed a firm $36.2 billion order from Korean Air covering the stretched 737 MAX, 787-10, and 777X in passenger and freighter variants, with deliveries starting in the early 2030s. Boeing said the aircraft were previously recorded as unidentified orders from a commitment announced last summer, meaning this is a customer-name update of existing backlog rather than new demand. Boeing’s commercial backlog exceeds 6,200 aircraft worth $597 billion, within a total company backlog of $715 billion. The stock fell 11.66% over the past month and 9.24% year to date after CEO Kelly Ortberg said stabilizing 737 MAX output is taking longer than expected. Boeing’s recent financials showed free cash flow of $631 million in Q2 2026 on 171 deliveries, but results don’t fully reflect when cash deposits arrive.
