Boston-bound Delta flight makes emergency landing in Portugal due to smoke in cabin

A Delta flight bound for Boston made an emergency landing in Porto, Portugal, after smoke was reported in the cabin, the airline said. Flight DL251 departed Barcelona at 3:15 p.m. local time (1315 GMT) and diverted to Porto following a reported mechanical issue, landing safely at 5:45 p.m. (1645 GMT), according to tracking data from Flightradar24. Portugal’s emergency and civil protection authority said eight passengers were treated on the tarmac at Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport while three others were taken to hospital. A spokesperson added that the forced landing was due to smoke in the cabin.
