Gianni Infantino: English FA set to withdraw support for FIFA president as UEFA considers legal action
Gianni Infantino is facing escalating efforts to remove him as FIFA president, with England’s Football Association set to withdraw its prior support. Sky Sports News reports the FA will write to Infantino to revoke a letter backing his re-election, following Wales becoming the first association to officially withdraw support and Sweden joining later Monday. UEFA has also threatened legal action against FIFA, citing an Infantino plan related to selling World Cup stakes. In a letter dated Friday July 31, UEFA said it is “actively considering legal action, arbitration, and/or regulatory complaints.” The piece notes FIFA officials were warned not to destroy evidence and that a challenger at the March election in Morocco is likely if he survives short term.
