Here's Why Doubling B-21 Raider Production Is Nearly Impossible, Even With $100 Billion
Doubling production of the Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider is nearly impossible in the short term, even with a reported $100 billion funding effort aimed at boosting output by 25%. The U.S. Air Force currently appears to plan for deliveries of about 10 aircraft per year after the program moves from low-rate initial production to full serial-rate production. Before that transition, production is described as roughly 1–2 B-21s per year as pre-serial test aircraft. The first B-21 flew in 2023 and is expected to enter service in 2027, with early aircraft delivered for testing at Edwards AFB, California, and a second announced in September 2025. Northrop has also sold a prototype test jet to the USAF, potentially bringing operational prototypes to three. Bottlenecks are said to remain classified.
