Iran targeted US air defenses then hit aircraft and buildings on Mideast bases, AP analysis finds
An Associated Press analysis says Iran’s strikes across more than two dozen U.S. bases in the Middle East targeted early-warning systems first before hitting aircraft and buildings, resulting in billions of dollars in equipment damage. The AP independently verified damage using satellite imagery from multiple providers and spoke with four regional officials briefed or with firsthand knowledge. Through August, the analysis found more than 115 drone or missile strikes claimed by Iran or Iran-backed militias damaged or destroyed structures on 26 U.S. military bases and other sites with U.S. equipment. It says initial attacks focused on aircraft hangars and detection systems, then expanded to warehouses and troop housing. The damage has reportedly reshaped U.S. posture, moving many assets out of the Persian Gulf.
