Less Than 1 Month Supply": Europe's Jet Fuel Supply Hits Lowest Levels Of Any Major Market
Europe’s jet fuel supply has fallen to its lowest levels in any major market, with the continent holding less than one month of inventory as geopolitical tensions threaten disruption. Reporting by Reuters cites aviation fuel reserves at critically low levels, tied to the 2026 Iran crisis and risks to travel and import routes from the United States and Asia. Because Europe depends on those imports, bottlenecks affecting air and maritime corridors could translate into supply shortages during the summer season. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) says jet fuel prices have risen more than 100% year on year, alongside a 43% increase in overall crude oil. The ReFuelEU mandate requiring 6% SAF by the end of the decade arrives amid sharply higher fossil costs that compress airline margins. Britain, France, and Germany face the greatest exposure due to heavy reliance on Middle Eastern shipments via the Strait of Hormuz, where inventory deficit approaches 600,000 barrels per day.
