Plane carrying Florida family goes missing near Bermuda Triangle region

A small plane with four people aboard disappeared shortly after taking off from Great Harbour Cay, prompting a search involving U.S. and Bahamian authorities near the region often associated with the “Bermuda Triangle.” Airport officials said a PA-34 Piper, a five-seater aircraft, departed around shortly after 11 a.m. Monday en route to Miami Executive Airport. The U.S. Coast Guard joined police on Andros Island after a report indicated the aircraft may have gone down off the coast of Red Bays in the Bahamas. Air traffic controllers lost contact about 13 miles west of Andros Island. The Bahamas Royal Police Force said inclement weather temporarily delayed search efforts, while the Coast Guard and the Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association continue searching.
