See the dramatic moment a power bank exploded on IndiGo Air flight
An IndiGo Flight 6E 6115 from Delhi to Chennai diverted for an emergency landing in Hyderabad after a reported power bank caught fire onboard Sunday. The blaze broke out in an overhead luggage compartment, with about 180 passengers and seven crew members on board. Cabin crew extinguished the fire and the aircraft landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, with no injuries reported. IndiGo said smoke was detected from a passenger’s “personal electronic device.” Video posted online showed passengers in the aisle attempting to contain flames from the overhead area. The airline said it arranged another aircraft to continue to Chennai and authorities launched an investigation. The incident highlights rules: IndiGo requires power banks to stay in carry-on reach and prohibits charging during flight. Battery risks include lithium-ion thermal runaway; a June 2025 U.S. recall affected about 1.16 million Anker PowerCore 10000 units.
