Soar across Dubai skies in Uber's new flying taxis

Uber plans to test electric flying taxis in Dubai, with service envisioned later this year and priced to be “no more than” Uber’s premium car rides. A test was shown with Joby’s all-electric aircraft, designed for up to four passengers and traveling at up to 200 mph between vertiports. The company said the route could cut the 20-mile trip from Dubai Airport to luxury hotels on Palm Jumeirah—often over an hour by road—to about 11 minutes. During the demonstration, the plane lifted using six propellers and switched to a “cruise mode” as it accelerated. Joby has not yet received regulatory approval for passenger flights, so attendees were not allowed to ride.
