Spain Clears $6.2B Airbus A330 Tanker Buy With Poland

Spain has approved a seven-year framework agreement with Poland to jointly acquire up to seven Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft under EU financing support tied to Security Action for Europe (SAFE). The total is 5.4 billion euros, about $6.2 billion, including associated logistical support. Warsaw is set to receive four tankers by 2030, while Madrid is expected to take the remaining three. Poland’s need is driven by integrating 32 F-35 fighters, with Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz citing airlift and refueling capability gaps. Spain already has three A330s on order from Airbus, with the first delivered in April 2025.
