Tui among worst airlines for delays as new data reveals average wait times

TUI is among the worst airlines for delays, according to new Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) data analyzed by the Press Association. Flights departing UK airports with the carrier averaged 20 minutes and 24 seconds of delay in 2025. Its Birmingham to Zante service recorded the highest average delay among TUI routes, highlighting operational issues within the airline’s network. The analysis covered all scheduled and chartered UK departures by 34 airlines that operated more than 2,500 flights last year, excluding cancelled flights. TUI Airways, owned by Tui Group and serving more than 20 UK airports, was ranked fifth worst for punctuality. Air India topped the list for delays for the second consecutive year, with an average hold-up of 36 minutes and 36 seconds. Scandinavian Airlines was most punctual with eight minutes average delay, while Virgin Atlantic averaged 11 minutes. CAA director Tim Johnson said delays can cause significant passenger disruption. Depending on route and delay length, passengers may be entitled to assistance and compensation up to £520 where within the airline’s control.
