Ukrainian forces set fire to major Russian oil refinery in drone attack
Ukrainian forces kept up heavy drone attacks on Russia, igniting a fire at a major oil refinery in the south and killing at least two people, Russian authorities said Sunday. President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that Russia is “going through a difficult period.” Ukraine has increased long-range strikes in recent months aimed at cutting Moscow’s energy revenue tied to its invasion, now in its fifth year, and analysts say the campaign has disrupted fuel supplies and military deliveries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the “long-range sanctions” hit two oil refineries, including Slavyansk-na-Kubani in Russia’s Krasnodar region, where the refinery processes close to four million tons of crude per year. Kondratyev said debris killed one person in Slavyansk and wounded another nearby. Zelensky also claimed a second hit in the Yaroslavl region, where roads and airports faced temporary closures due to drone attacks.
