Westerton Water Upgrades Complete After £4.6m Investment
Westerton Water Upgrades Complete After £4.6m Investment reports that Northumbrian Water has finished modernization work on the supply network serving Westerton near Bishop Auckland in County Durham. The project, backed by a £4.6 million scheme, includes an 850-metre water main running uphill from the A688 to the village, connected to pipes supplying nearby towns and villages including Coundon, with further improvements for Ferryhill and Kirk Merrington subject to final commissioning. A new pumping station has been installed to help protect supplies along the route and improve water pressure. The upgrade also allows an older treated water storage reservoir in Westerton to be taken out of service. The work was delivered by Northumbrian Water’s partner, Esh-Stantec, and final commissioning is expected to have no significant impact on the community due to limited activity by small teams.
