What Is The Future Of The Regional Jet Market
xCruzo Brief
The future of the regional jet market remains constrained by U.S. scope clauses tied to aircraft weight and operating economics. The Embraer E2 family was expected to include the E175-E2, but the aircraft does not comply with U.S. scope limits due to excessive weight, leaving its development paused. Mitsubishi’s SpaceJet also failed to meet scope requirements and the program was canceled. With the 86,000 lb (39,009 kg) limit, modern high-bypass turbofan engines are difficult to fit within the threshold. As a result, the only scope-compliant regional jet being sold is the older Embraer E175, first introduced as part of the E-Jet family in 2004 and still in service for more than 20 years.
