Why Did Emirates Order The Boeing 777X And Not More Airbus A350s?
xCruzo Brief
Emirates is placing a heavy bet on the Boeing 777X rather than buying more Airbus A350-900s, even though both aircraft sit in the long-haul “sweet spot.” Emirates’ widebody fleet exceeds 250 planes and currently includes the A350-900, with 25 in service and 48 on order (73 total). It also has orders for more than 200 777X aircraft. The article links the decision to Emirates’ existing fleet mix: it already operates 117 Boeing 777-300ERs and 117 Airbus A380s, plus only 10 Boeing 777-200LRs. The A350-900 is positioned mainly for growth on routes where Emirates’ largest aircraft can be uneconomic.
