Year-Old LIRR Rider Shot to Death on Train: Police
Police are investigating a fatal shooting at a Long Island Railroad station early Wednesday morning, after a 20-year-old man was killed on board a train. Suffolk County Police said the victim, Yusef Staine of West Babylon, was shot by a man he appeared to be traveling with while the train was parked at the Ronkonkoma LIRR station around 1:45 a.m., prior to departure to New York Penn Station. Authorities said the alleged gunman fled the scene. Police Chief homicide investigator Kevin Beyrer said Staine and the shooter appeared to know each other and were traveling together. Beyrer also emphasized that it did not appear to be a random incident and that no other passengers were injured. The response included emergency services, aviation units, and K-9 teams. The Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad and MTA Police are continuing the investigation.
