Angling reports for Aug. 6, 2026 suggest fishing conditions remain mixed in Idaho and Washington waters. Silver Bow Fly Shop says hatches on most days are still sparse on the North Fork Coeur d’Alene River, but small mayfly and caddis patterns may generate bites, with terrestrial dry flies like ants, beetles, hoppers, craneflies and bees also worth trying. On the St. Joe River, terrestrials are recommended, and dry-dropper rigs are still producing on the Spokane River, with downsizing of dry and nymph patterns and nymphing through faster/deeper slots. The shop notes more “hoot-owl” restrictions, especially on the entire Clark Fork River, plus full closures near cold-water tributary mouths. Idaho Fish and Game plans to stock over 75,000 catchable rainbow trout in August across the Panhandle, including Day Rock Pond, Elsie Lake and Gene Day Pond.
