Ben Stokes 'will be back and he'll be captain' in third Test - Brendon McCullum
Ben Stokes will return as England captain in the third Test against New Zealand next week, with head coach Brendon McCullum saying the team will “try to move on” after a damaging incident. Just over an hour after England were beaten by 253 runs at the Kia Oval, McCullum confirmed Stokes will lead at Trent Bridge in Thursday’s series decider, after being briefly stood down following a nightclub incident in the early hours of June 8. Stokes, 35, and Gus Atkinson had been pulled from their county stints before selection. The England and Wales Cricket Board investigation into a “breach of team protocols” and an independent Cricket Regulator probe remain ongoing. More details are expected Monday, with training in Nottingham on Tuesday. ECB men’s cricket managing director Rob Key said the stricter alcohol-related curfew rules were communicated via the Team England Player Partnership.
