Fishing boat capsizes off Jeju, 9 rescued including one Vietnamese
A 29-tonne fishing boat carrying 11 people capsized off Jeju Island in South Korea early on October 5, according to the Jeju Coast Guard. Nine people were rescued, including one Vietnamese crew member, while two remain missing: the Korean captain and an Indonesian crew member. The incident occurred at 3:04 a.m. in waters about 65 kilometres northwest of Chagwi Island, and the vessel was registered in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province. Nearby fishing boats helped pull survivors from the water, and the Coast Guard reported the rescued crew suffered hypothermia but were not in serious condition. Authorities deployed helicopters, patrol vessels and aircraft, and the boat’s departure report initially listed eight onboard before being corrected to 11.
