General Staff: Russia has lost 1,544,260 troops in Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022

Ukraine’s General Staff said on Oct. 7 that Russia has lost about 1,545,950 troops since the start of the full-scale invasion on Feb. 24, 2022. The figure includes 1,690 casualties suffered by Russian forces over the previous day. The report also listed Russia losses in major equipment: 12,396 tanks, 25,498 armored combat vehicles, 159,128 vehicles and fuel tanks, 50,836 artillery systems, 2,192 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,690 air defense systems, 443 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 2,878 unmanned ground vehicles, 35 ships and boats, and two submarines. Ukraine has not disclosed its own losses, citing operational secrecy. Western think tanks such as CSIS estimate Russian casualties exceed Ukraine’s by roughly 2.5:1 or 2:1.
