Largest UK seagrass project Mor Nature starts in Cornwall introduces a £1.8 million initiative aimed at reviving Cornwall’s marine habitats. Conservationists say the Mor Nature project will restore 10 hectares of seagrass meadow in Falmouth Bay over the next three years, targeting biodiversity loss, improved water quality and greater coastal resilience. Led by Cornwall Wildlife Trust (CWT) with Ocean Conservation Trust (OCT), the program is described as the largest seagrass restoration effort ever undertaken in the UK. It will be delivered alongside partners including Falmouth Harbour, Cornwall Council, the Zoological Society of London, the University of Exeter, the Duchy of Cornwall, and the Falmouth Marine Conservation Group. The restoration site will run between Swanpool and Pendennis Castle, building on OCT protection measures introduced in 2022, such as Sensitive Habitat Marker Buoys and voluntary no-anchor zones. CWT also plans mapping and monitoring work, and oyster nursery creation in the Helford, with conditions supporting species including seahorses and sharks.
