Mabrey scores 30, Tempo blow 20-point lead but beat Liberty 93-91 in Montreal
Marina Mabrey’s 30 points and Nyara Sabally’s late tiebreaking shot powered the Tempo to a 93-91 win over the New York Liberty in Montreal, after Toronto squandered a 20-point advantage. The game at the Bell Centre saw Mabrey record her second straight 30-point performance and her fifth of the season, following a 53-point effort in a 125-97 victory over Los Angeles on June 25 that tied the WNBA single-game record. Breanna Stewart tied the score 91-all on a layup with 1:30 remaining, but Julie Allemand (10 assists) found Sabally for the go-ahead basket with 52 seconds left. The Liberty’s comeback from 74-54 late in the third included a 16-4 run, but the Tempo held on. Toronto was outscored 27-13 in the final 10 minutes and has a minus-49 differential in its last five fourth quarters. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton was ejected for throwing a shoe at Mabrey.
