Most NC voters support legalized pot and proposed amendments on tax caps, voter ID, poll shows

A new Elon University poll suggests most North Carolina voters support three constitutional amendments on the ballot this November, despite opposition from Democratic lawmakers. The measures—approved by the Republican-led North Carolina General Assembly—include a photo ID requirement for voting, caps on personal income tax at 3.5%, and caps on property taxes. Elon surveyed 800 likely voters in August and released results Thursday, finding bipartisan support for all three amendments. The poll also found 63% favor the voter-ID amendment versus 25% opposed. Mail-in voting has already started; early in-person voting begins Oct. 15 and Election Day is Nov. 3.
