NHL Rumours: Josh Anderson Contract Extension Looms

Montreal Canadiens-related rumors are centering on a potential contract extension for power forward Josh Anderson. On TSN’s Insider Trading, Darren Dreger reported that an agreement “should be expected in the near future.” He said Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes asked Anderson to be patient as Montreal pursued upgrades to its forward group through trades, but that an extension is likely sooner rather than later. The expectation has followed Anderson’s comments at the Canadiens season-opening golf tournament, where he said he wanted to remain in Montreal and that talks would begin soon. Anderson is in the final year of a seven-year deal with a $5.5 million cap hit after being acquired from Columbus on October 6, 2020 for Max Domi and a third-round pick. He has started the season with four goals and two assists in seven games.
