Protesters Clash With Police After Migrants Land on South Coast

Protesters clashed with police in Gosport, on England’s south coast, after dozens of migrants arrived at a historic naval port by small boat, with authorities and media reports suggesting a new route to avoid detection. A large dinghy was seen traveling toward Britain from waters near Utah Beach in Normandy on Sunday morning and was monitored by French coastguard and rescue vessels. The Home Office said 149 migrants were believed to be aboard and would be taken to Kent for processing. About 300 protesters gathered near Haslar Marina after two RNLI boats brought people ashore late Sunday, with flares and scuffles as demonstrators shouted slogans against the arrivals.
