Reel Moments Make Real Impact: Marine Toys for Tots Encourages Outdoor Play
Marine Toys for Tots promoted outdoor play through its Give and Go: Outdoor Adventures Start with You initiative, timed with National Fishing Week running June 6–14. The program supported a hands-on fishing event in Maple Shade, New Jersey, partnering with local Toys for Tots Coordinator Gina Capate and taking place in support of foster children. On a warm morning, 24 local foster children gathered by the water to learn how to fish, with volunteers, local leaders, and law enforcement officers who reportedly invited and mentored the group. Organizers described the “Cops and Boppers” event as more than recreation, emphasizing belonging and trust built through positive shared experiences. Lieutenant General Jim Laster (USMC, Ret.), President and CEO of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, said the effort focused on creating moments that make children feel supported and included. The initiative directs donations toward items such as fishing poles and related educational resources.
