Sprague Energy secures pier operator at Portland's Cassidy Point

Sprague Energy says it has secured McAllister Towing as the operator for the Cassidy Point pier in Portland, Maine, as part of plans to sell the terminal while keeping permanent maritime use on the western waterfront. Sprague has operated the Cassidy Point terminal off western Commercial Street since 2004 and announced a purchase-and-sale agreement with McAllister for its 600-foot pier and wharf property along the Fore River. The move is intended to support the Portland Hearts of Pine soccer team’s plan to rezone the upland portion for a 10,000-seat stadium. Sprague and team officials say McAllister’s presence fits the working waterfront vision. The transfer comes amid opposition from groups including the Maine Port Authority, which questioned whether a true marine terminal can succeed without the larger warehousing components.
